The Hedgehog Hollow June Kit: Mr. Monocle Mustache

Hello all!  I am so pleased to share that I will be the Design Team Lead for The Hedgehog Hollow!  We have a wonderful team of designers (and upcoming guest designers) to help inspire you!

For my first card share using items from the June kit, I was inspired by the fun mustache tissue paper from the box.  Since the hipster movement, monocles have moved back into pop culture and I thought a monocle would make a fun addition to the card as well.

I die-cut the large script "Dad" word die from the blue woodgrain card stock in the kit, reserving the negative pieces for a future card.  I cut two additional "Dad" words from scrap paper and layered my diecut for both strength and dimension.  For the mustache, I loosely cut around one mustache from the tissue paper and glued to a piece of scrap cardstock.  This gave the mustache a more rigid structure and made handling it much easier.  I then fussy cut the mustache out and set aside.  

I created the monocle from a key ring in my stash and some jewelry chain.  I did layer a piece of acetate to the bottom of the key ring for a more realistic appearance.  Since the end of the chain is often housed within a vest or jacket pocket, I stamped the pocket image onto a piece of white cardstock using a light grey ink.  I didn't want the pocket to detract from the "Dad" and monocle above.  To add a bit more whimsy, I cut a wee black top hat using a die in my stash and stamped the sentiment "Bonjour monsieur" onto a thin scrap of white cardstock.

I carefully layered the top hat behind the capital "D" and added the sentiment strip partially over the letter.  I centered the mustache beneath the "a" and "d", giving the semblance of eyes.  I carefully adhered the end of the monocle chain to the inside of the pocket, and mounted onto the kraft card panel with foam tape.  Then, I simply had to glue the monocle in place and add a generous amount of glue to hold the chain end beside the monocle.  I let this dry overnight to avoid messing it up.  And, to my delight, the chain is firmly attached and hangs freely!  The card is rather simple, but the details are there.
