Today's blog will focus specifically on how I shade black images. I know there are probably a several ways or variations on this subject, but this is how I colored and shaded the robes on Kindred Stamps's Wizard Friends. This will be a blog in pictures, which I feel is probably the easiest way to see how I did this (aside from a video of course). Now, I was a tad heavier on the darker tones in this example, but you'll see in the other images that my highlighted areas are lighter. Just be lighthanded with your color application - lightly brush the nib across the paper. It is always easier to build color than trying to figure out how to get rid of it. In larger applications, feather the edge of each shade to make blending easier. If you have any questions, please leave me a comment or send me a message. I will help the best I can. Cheers! (Above: Blended out with the lightest shade C-5; I should have left a wider area of lightest shade in this example. See below for Ron's shading. Stopping to take pics messed with my coloring mojo. lol I believe for Ron I blended toward the darkest shade instead of from dark to light. That way I was able to maintain a nice highlight without darkening the lightest area by carrying the darker tones into it.)
Below is the second Hermione colored. There is a difference in blending. Practice practice practice!
I prefer the look of this second robe personally.
The gang all colored! I ADORE this stamp set! And there really is so much detail - I have to really pay close attention coloring those finer areas! (Hurts my eyes! lol) I am hoping Audra with Kindred Stamps will release a follow-up set to accompany this set (hint, hint).
Don't you think we need Dobby? Dumbledore? Hagrid?
SNAPE?!
Thank you for joining me! Until later.. stay fairy sweet!
