Happy New YAARGH!! Like many of you, I try to find fun ways to make these amazing images we have fit into various holidays/themes that are not their expected roles. For this card, that surly pirate from Kindred Stamps Yo Ho was perfect to exclaim his cheers for the new year. (Don't you think?)
To add some fun interest to the background, I used the Basket Weave Stencil with Antique Linen Distress Oxide ink. I wanted to use beach/sea colors without having to create an actual shoreline. The pirate captain was stamped and clear embossed onto Canson Mix Media paper then watercolored with Arteza Real Brush Pens. The glass bottle is from Honey Bee Stamps and was stamped with Peeled Paint Distress Oxide ink and embossed in clear on the same paper, then painted with a water brush with diluted Peeled Paint oxide ink. The roll of parchment was stamped with Catherine Pooler gray ink, "distressed" with ink and Copic markers and includes the skull and cross bones from the stamp set (second-generation stamping so it was less bold). The sentiment was added to the rolled parchment via typewriter (hooray for Christmas presents!). I thought adding the pirate ship would be a fun background element, so I merely stamped in gray onto my card panel then layered the bottle and the Captain on top. I think this card has all of the feel of a man at sea, don't you? NOTE: At the time that I completed this card and blog post, Yo Ho was out of stock (I'm so sorry!).
