I have had the pleasure of playing with a handful of Tonic products lately and will be sharing some of my cards using their range of products--Mica mists, dies, stamps, and other amazing Nuvo goodies.
For my first card, I wanted to play with Tonic Studio's adorable little lowercase alphabet die set. We often think of alpha dies as tools to build words, naturally. But, for this card, I wanted to use the entire alphabet, with the spotlight on the "hi". How fun that "hi" appears in the proper order! I stamped the girl from LDRS's Furry Fabulous stamp set, exclusive to The Hedgehog Hollow subscription box, onto watercolor paper using Antique Linen distress ink then colored her with my Distress Markers and a water brush.
Next I cut out the Tonic Studios 'Windsor' Lower Case Simple Type letter dies. These are smaller and perfect for this application. The die is one piece, all of the letters are attached, so it was quick work.
I spritzed my top-folding A2 card base with Nuvo's Mica Mist in Turkish Rose, spraying from the direction of the bottom right corner. I arranged my alphabet on the card and began gluing the letters in place, except for the "h" and "i". Then, from the same bottom right corner, I spritzed Nuvo's Mica Mist in Antique Gold. Using some darker scrap paper, I cut a total of 3 additional letters "h" and "i" and glued/stacked them together for depth and emphasis then glued them in their place amongst the letters.
Next, sweet Mini Winnie was mounted onto the card front using foam tape just to the left of the "hi", covering a few of the letters. For added interest, I used the Tonic Studios Embellishment Strip Die Set to cut fun detail into some scrap pink and white cardstock. After trimming down the strips, I added them to the card front, adding the final strip using foam tape for dimension.
Look at that shimmer!!
I love how simple, yet different, this project ended up. By spraying the Antique Gold Mica Mist over the other alphas, it helped soften them into the background a bit more, further emphasizing the "hi". I wanted to keep the color palette simple and feel this card packs a nice punch. I hope my use of the alpha die and the embellishment strip die will help you see beyond their expected uses.
Stay tuned for more Tonic Studios product sharing fun! Until next time.. xo
